Laminate flooring is a multi-layer synthetic flooring product, fused together with a lamination process. Laminate flooring simulates wood (or stone, in some cases) with a photographic applique layer under a clear protective layer.

Relatively new to North America, laminates have a dense fiberboard core with a paper pattern layer sealed under high pressure both top and bottom with a plastic-like substance. Sold as planks and panels in wood, stone, tile and other looks.

If you have no cuts, it goes pretty fast. Note the wedges keeping the planks 1/4 inch away from the walls and toe-kicks. Laminates are primarily wood and must have room to expand. At no place should the flooring be attaced with screws or nails. It floats. It's not all fun and games though. The planks Can come apart once locked occasionally, but they are easily put back in or tapped back into place. Once they are all a unit, the won't come up. The weight holds them down. This finish is Espresso Oak

When you lower the plank into the next one, then you tap it firmly into the previous one with this nylon block, and into the previous row with metal "pull bar".
